Chris McGee
Head Chef
Chris McGee is a chef, educator, and sustainable food systems advocate. Chris’ culinary training began with the world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongrichten at his namesake restaurant in New York City. Positions at several high profile restaurants in the city followed. After many years in the restaurant industry, Chris recognized he needed a change and perhaps, so too did the world. While he remains enamored with the craft of fine dining cooking, he recognizes the excess of the New York City restaurant world is simply unsustainable.
Educating young people about delicious, sustainable food preparation has been Chris’ focus for the last several years. First at the environmentally focused Eden Village West, a summer farm-based camp in Northern California and then and then at the Mountain School in central Vermont, Chris has found that cooking for and with young people feels like the best use of his knowledge and energy. Chris is excited to be cooking at Ecology Learning Center, working alongside this incredibly talented, like minded staff, here in the heart of Maine’s organic farming community. More than just a good lunch, Chris is invigorated to share with the students of ELC the importance of good food as a vehicle for environmental and social betterment.
By promoting mindful eating practices and delicious recipes that are healthy, affordable and accessible, Chris is working to make sure that all are nourished. For Chris, a quality school lunch isn't just about flavor and nutrition - it's about bringing community together around food and creating a healthier planet one meal at a time.
