Kayla Higgins believes in a student-centered, holistic approach to engage students in real-life learning. As a part of her PhD research, she published Service Learning: A Classic Grounded Theory Study of High School Educators. She draws from her past 18 years of experience in environmental education at the middle school, high school and post secondary levels to prioritize inclusion. Most recently, Kayla facilitated a student driven project, where Mount View and Unity College students worked to build social and emotional skills and a deeper understanding for ecological literacy. A lifetime of passion towards environmental education and dedication to her community, Kayla works to create the most meaningful learning opportunities for her students and is proud her children will be growing up in Waldo County.
