Mandarin Chinese teacher
Craig Butler returned in 2018 to Maine after nearly 20 years teaching Chinese language and leading service learning trips in international schools in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand, with a stint as the director of the international and boarding program at John Bapst High School in Bangor and a Master’s degree in East Asian Languages and Literatures. Prior to that, Craig taught Chinese for 7 years at his alma mater Harvard. Craig and his wife are currently building a house in Belfast, which sites him close to where his seafaring ancestors settled in the 1700s. Alongside an interest in language, literature, contemporary Asia and building science, Craig considers himself an amateur tai chi practitioner, tinkerer, mountain biker, paddler and gardener. His adult children live in Bath and Lewiston.
