Science and Math Teacher
A Maine native, Ellen Batchelder joined the ELC as a teacher of Science and Math in August 2021. Driven by a curiousity of how the world works, particularly the microscopic world, Ellen enjoys engaging students to share in that curiousity from the classroom, in the lab, and in the outdoors. After earning a dergee in Cell Biology, Ellen worked in research at the Institut Curie in France, before returning to Maine and teaching Biology at the college level for a decade at nearby Unity College. Ellen enjoys close connections in the Unity community, serving on the board of the local Lake Association and Land Trust, and cares about conserving these ecological resources for the future. Whether in the classroom or not, you may find her face down on the ground getting a close up with a fungus, peering in a microscope, reading a good book, or knitting tiny creatures.
