Alec Schoettle

Social Studies Teacher

Alec has been working with students outside the traditional classroom right from his first job as a teenager at the WoodenBoat school in Brooklin. He started working with students full-time in 2006 at The Leadership School at Kieve after graduating from Kenyon College, where he studied English and Political Science. In more recent years his work with students has been on traditional sailing vessels taking high school and college students on trips as a Captain with the World Ocean School and Maine Maritime Academy. During the last few years he was also working as a successful independent boatyard contractor, but the pull to get back into education full time - this time in the traditional classroom - became too strong to ignore. He went back to school and earned his Masters in Teaching at the University of Maine in 2020 and began teaching full time during the middle of the pandemic. He lives in Searsmont with his wife and two dogs.
