John is the Co-Founder (with his partner, Courtney Hayes) and Artistic Director of Belfast-based counter/current:collective, whose mission is to bring adventurous, thought-provoking theatre and dance happenings to Midcoast Maine that inspire conversation and create space for transformation. Recent site-specific productions include Annie Baker’s The Aliens (set in a dirt lot behind Colburn’s Shoe Store) and Circle Mirror Transformation (set at the Waldo County YMCA).

John has been working as a collaborative theatre artist with arts and culture organizations across the nation for over 25 years. He’s been a dancer, designer, band manager, producer, director, and museum reenactor; performed in over 50 professional plays; taught Theatre and English from Prague to Los Angeles to students from all over the world; and was a member of the Artistic Company at Curious Theatre Company in Denver CO for over a decade, where he also served as Associate Producer for several years.

John is thrilled to join the team at the Ecology Learning Center, and excited to share his personal values of broadening awareness, encouraging connection, and cultivating joy with ELC students.
