MAINE ORGANIC FARMERS AND GROWERS ASSOCIATION (MOFGA)

Work with the central organic agriculture organization in Maine! Potential student projects will include: learning more about principles of organic gardening and agriculture, light construction projects around the MOFGA property, work in barns and buildings to prepare for MOFGA events, and learning how MOFGA supports Maine farmers.

BOWSPRIT FOUNDATION

A working farm in Unity which creates opportunities for youth to gain practical skills & experience in agriculture, forestry, food preparation, and traditional crafts. Potential student projects will include: outdoor construction projects, working with sheep, event planning & preparation, and outdoor trail and grounds maintenance.

 

FARWELL GENERAL

A collection of historic buildings in downtown Thorndike, which include a general store, a railyard, a grain mill, and a theater space. Potential student projects will include: curating and organizing a museum, library work in Reading Room, and light construction (installing siding, insulation, shelving, etc).

UNITY PUBLIC LIBRARY (UPL)

Opened in the Spring of 2021, the Unity Public Library has established its presence downtown. Potential student projects include: learning to catalog to patron service, and grant-writing to event hosting.

UNITY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Students can walk across the street into a treasure trove of artifacts and documents detailing the history of this town and area. Potential student projects include: archiving, exhibit-designing, event hosting, researching, website and social media development.

MAINE YOUTH FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE (MYCJ)

Joining this state-wide organization, students can engage in broader climate conversations. Potential student projects include: event managing, researching, writing and designing informational materials, and community organizing around climate issues.

Community Engagement

We challenge students to roll up their sleeves and serve the local community through volunteer work and apprenticeships. Once a month on Wednesday mornings, 10th and 11th grade students work with Community Partners, developing their compassion, collaboration, and problem-solving. During this time, our 12th graders have designated time to spend on their Internships that are required for graduation. Read more about our Community Partners below.
